RuPaul. You better work! And She Does!

MY moments in the entertainment world began with being a voice major for Opera in college. As crazy as it seemed but I spiraled into drag when I was eighteen and did a few shows in NewYork, Chicago and Atlanta.

My fascination with hair and makeup began along with the actual production. Another one of the hats I have worn.

Lights, Curtain and some intermittent applause. I was hooked!!!

Behind the scenes for so many performance artist after college. I was part of the entourage for many major acts in the Disco era. Traveling with Sylvester and so on.

Bits and pieces of that time when I was back in Atlanta I would see this drag performer with a grocery buggy full of flyers. She was handing them to any one that looked up at him.

The headline read "The Fabulous Ru Paul."

And with further ado. Work!!!

A few years later, after finishing film school when I moved to Los Angeles, I got a chance to co-produce a documentary on Sylvester. A huge disco performer from the disco era. Plus I had a ton of stories because of my past with the industry. There are many that I keep to myself because my life is safer that way.... You understand?

That led me to interviews with John Waters, Joan Rivers and of course the fabulous in person real life Rupaul.

OMG, RuPaul at my home in my living room.

A kind and well spoken man, very spiritual and of course he adored Sylvester.

The biggest thing I remembered was his honey colored skin and his gentle spirit. A complete alter ego personna from the larger than life Rupaul.

Here is an interview not mine but a great glimpse of his world and some of mine on what it was like to be who you are as a person.

Over the years I have received moment after moment of inspiration from this incredible life force.

There have been many instances where I was at the same event or show or location. I always left with the "I had better work it" if I want to do what I am here for this time in my life and I got that every time I came in contact with Ru. That is and was his path.. He is still working that runway.

This is my own path! This is my runway!!

My own way!

This weeks blog continues down the road of inspiration. Of movement.

Of Living Live to the fullest.

If you have not had even a small piece of these moments. Then you better get up and "Work"

Here is the amazing Ru at the this years Emmys.... Fierce!
